Well, I never seem to get our fly tying videos completed anywhere near as often as I like, but I’m starting to get them into the regular rotation on the fly tying desk now. So, this week we have filmed three new videos, the first of which has just gone live on our YouTube channel.

It’s one I have been promising a few people for a number of weeks now, the Rubicon Bomber. This is a fly that saw me take colour inspiration from Fran Betters’ Ausable Bomber, and a silouhette more in keeping with the classic deer hair bombers used in salmon fishing. It first caught fish for me on the Rubicon River around 2014 and has continued to do so every since. But, what is important is that it is easy to tie, with just a few materials, and it catches fish.

The video can be found at the following link : https://youtu.be/_Iihx3chLLU

For those of you interested in tying a few for yourself, the materials used in the video are as follows :

Ahrex FW500 Dry Fly Hook – Size #10

6/0 Veevus Thread – Red

Calf Tail

Mixed Saddle Hackle

Hareline Hare’s Ear Plus Dubbing – Rusty Orange

That’s all you need to tie the Rubicon Bomber. The video runs you through the process to help you tie these for yourself.

Be sure to keep an eye on our YouTube channel for more fly tying videos in the coming weeks and months. Or, just check the blog here on the website and I’ll drop a new post every time a new video goes live.
