For those of you who have tracked the progress of relatively young British brand Chuck’N’Duck over the last couple of years, you’ll be aware that business owner Andy McClelland has a ‘thing’ for dubbing. I’d go so far as to say it was an almost unhealthy problem that he is nurturing, and I, for one, can appreciate that!

We came on board as Australia’s only seller of Chuck’N’Duck products early in the piece after hearing positive reports from fly tyers around the world in regards to Andy’s dubbing creations. And since then, it has been a whirlwind of imaginative executive decisions that have seen entire lines created, chopped and expanded to meet the needs of you guys and your fly tying. You need only look at the highly lauded Electric Seal range to know that there are more colour options than you’ll ever consider using. With more subtle tones than a Richard Dadd watercolour, the motivation to create more options still roams the halls of the dubbing asylum.

With that in mind, when the new range of Hare & Squirrel dubbing was recently released, it was limited to ten dyed colours only. Needless to day, we had all ten colour options land as soon as they were released, to compliment the “Natural” and “UV Mosaic” Hare & Squirrel dubbing that were already proving very popular. And of course, like a little British orphan trapped in the plot of a musical, I asked Andy if we could “please sir, have one more”, needing one extra colour for some very popular Australian nymphs.

With that, Andy set to task producing some test blends for me, until the Tasmanian Chocolate colour option came to life. It’s a mix of darker and light shades, so it captures different light in different ways, both dry and wet. It has the same soft texture as all the Hare & Squirrel dubbing blends, with plenty of long, spikey fibres to ensure a real buggy look. Of course, it is a perfect dubbing for a little Brown Nymph, but it can be worked into a very fine noodle for dry fly bodies too.

Tasmanian Chocolate is only available to the Australian fly tying market, until the Brits realise what they are missing out on. The Chuck’N’Duck Hare & Squirrel Dubbing in Tasmanian Chocolate is now is stock down under. Check it out at the Troutlore Fly Tying Store, or see it being used on our social media platforms.
