Description

The 718 Stone is a favourite pattern of mine for getting deep on big drop-offs and slow pools when there are Stoneflies about, or when you’re just in need of a general searching nymph with some decent size and weight to it. The combination of Firehole Stones and Firehole Bug Bands gives the fly plenty of weight and a great natural shape that gets to the strike zone fast.

This is a pattern that was developed by Rob Gee from Troutlore after experimenting with countless different Stonefly imitations from other fly tyers. It incorporates elements from all number of Stonefly and Mayfly nymph imitations, coming together to deliver a big nymph on a barbless hook. The name obviously comes from the Firehole 718 hook that forms the base of this fly, which is a modern rethink of the classic Stimulator hook, with a wider gape for a better connection rate.

Supplied in lots of six (6) flies per hook size.

Of course, if you want to tie this pattern yourself, Troutlore offers a complete materials kit for this pattern. You can find the ‘TieYourOwn’ kit for The 718 Stone here.

All flies sold at Troutlore are tied by hand in Australia by Rob from Troutlore, or designated tyers for specific patterns who are noted in the descriptions. This pattern is tied on quality Firehole barbless hooks and using the best materials, The 718 Stone is a great addition to any fly box for all times of the the stream season.
