Description

Joe’s Trout Day Box is a great little companion for a fun day on the stream, much like the man himself! These boxes offer dry, wet and nymph options, and fit neatly in your shirt pocket. This makes Joes Trout Day Box and ideal option for ultra-light fishing when you don’t want to carry a pack or vest, plus, it acts as easy access to the flies you’ll fish often when you are carrying all the gear too.

Included are the following flies :

3 x Deer Hair Sedge #12
3 x Grouse Mudeye #12
3 x Stretch Back Nymph #14
3 x Stretch Back Jig Nymph #16
1 x Easy Grip Pocket Fly Box

The Deer Hair Sedge is a great dry fly attractor pattern. I have watched Joe pick off brown trout with on our Victorian streams with this fly, when my offerings at the time were doing no good. It has a bit of mass, so it delivers a nice little ‘plop’ when it hits the surface, and then sits low with the legs atop of the film. With a foam inner to the body, and a good amount of select deer hair for the wings, it’s a fly that floats well, even with a tungsten bead head nymph hanging below it.

Joe’s Grouse Mudeye is a really cool pattern that works in both lakes and streams. With dragonflies on the water just about every day, it makes sense to always have a few one hand whenever you’re fishing. Especially in Victoria’s western lakes. These have been adapted from Joe’s original Grouse Mudeye with a little extra weight so they can be fished in streams too. Yet, they’re not so heavy that they become untenable in stillwater. The combination of grouse feathers, deer hair and antron dubbing allow for a slow sink rate to keep the fly in the strike zone as long as possible.

The Stretch Back Nymph from Joe’s Flies is a great little bug with a slim profile that goes down fast. But, it still offers a decent meal for the trout with the fine rubber legs expanding the silhouette at all angles. Fished in a double nymph rig, naked, or as an assist nymph in a dry-dropper situation, this nymph has been proving it’s worth all around the country over the past year. I never go out on a trout stream without some of these flies in my kit.

The Stretch Back Jig Nymph from Joe’s Flies is a great little bug with a slim profile that goes down fast, and tied on a jig hook, it rides point up so your can fish it right along the bottom with less chance of snagging. Slender as it may be, it still offers a decent meal for the trout with the fine rubber legs expanding the silhouette at all angles. Fished in a double nymph rig, naked, or as an assist nymph in a dry-dropper situation, this nymph has been proving it’s worth allready. I never go out on a trout stream without some of Joe’s Stretch Back Nymphs in my kit.
