Description

Veniard Doetails are a high quality Whitetail Deer tail sourced from a female deer, rather than the more commonly sold male Bucktail. Sourced out of the UK, they offers a large amount of hair in each tail for tying saltwater, salmon, trout flies and local natives like Murray cod and Yellowbelly. Great for Intruders, Clousers, Bufords, Frog Poppers and other patterns.

These Veniard Doetails that we stock represent some of the most consistent tails we have come across. The photo is representative of the average doetail available from Veniard, but every one will differ slightly given they are a natural product. That said, the consistency across large numbers of tails is excellent with large amounts of hair in each, with a nice softness to the fibers which display lengths between three and five inches. Plus, the colours are in line with Veniard’s well known dyeing process, so you’ll know they’ll match up with other materials for colour reference.

Veniard Doetails offer excellent value for money and are supplied with one doetail per pack. Each doetail offers a massive amount of hair/fur for fly tying purposes. The average length of these doetails is 10 inches, whereas the bucktails average around 12 inches.

High quality, large fur tail
Ideal for salmon, cod, and a range of saltwater flies
Used as wing and/or tail material in salmon flies
Supports lighter materials and flash in cod and predator flies
Creates ideal profile on cod and predator flies without added weight
Slightly stiff, yet still soft for amazing movement through the water

Doetail, like bucktail hair, is primarily used as wing and/or tail material in a wide variety of salmon patterns. It can be used on trebles, doubles, singles or tube flies. The softness of the hair offers great movement in the water.

As the material can do this, it is ideally used to support lighter materials and flash when reversed tied in pike and predator flies. It also works great when being used to make a profile on large pike and predator flies without adding too much weight or bulk. Because it is less stiff than bucktail, it still creates an even more highly natural and enticing movement through the water.

Of course, if you want to create all sorts of natural looking fly patterns, then our ever growing range of natural feathers is the ideal place to start. Aside from all the hackles, marabou, Coq De Leon and Cul De Canard that we have on offer, you can find some real gems the Other Feathers Category of the Troutlore Flytying Store.
