Description

The Troutlore Select Deer hair is another step in continually strive to find the best fly tying materials for Australian fly tyers. We are sourcing quality Whitetail Deer from the US and painstakingly going through each hide to get only the best hair for our range. The result is three grades of deer body hair for a range of fly tying purposes that we are confident in offering to your guys. The rest, ends up in the dumps bin, or for use testing dyeing processes. If I wouldn’t tie with it myself, I won’t let it be sold to you.

Due to the variance in colour across the hides, we are now offering our Select Deer Hair in the standard Natural colur and this, Light colour. The Light deer hair exhibits lighter tones in the tips and overall lighter colouring along the length of the hair. It’s not as light as the bleached hair, it’s still a natural tone, but not as dark as the bulk of our Select Whitetail Deer Hair, making it perfect for those light flies when you don’t want to go stark white or cream. The images show a typical piece, some are even lighter still. If you need something specific in your deer hair, just get in touch before you order.

The Select Deer Hair is the best of the best hair from these hides. It’s everything you want in a patch of fly tying hair: straightness, length, even tips and without any excessive flaring. We can confidently say that these patches of deer hair are free from any un-shed winter guard hairs, a real nuisance when stacking your hair. We know these Select Deer Hair patches are free from this guard hair because Rob goes through every single patch by hand, preening the hair and plucking out all unwanted guard hairs with tweezers. It takes a while, but I am confident in offering this deer hair to you after it goes through the process.

Our Select Deer hair offers just the right stiffness and compression, being fine enough to not offer too much flaring for the perfect Stimulator wing, hopper body or caddis. Every patch offers hair of around 1.5 inches, with fine tips, and a clean dark barring beneath the tip section. The hair must be straight, with a little waver to it to make the grade, without excessive underfur.

Each piece measures 2 inches by 3 inches.

Sale is for one single item, like pictured.
