Description

The Troutlore Fine Deer hair is another step in continually strive to find the best fly tying materials for Australian fly tyers. We are sourcing quality Whitetail Deer from the US and painstakingly going through each hide to get only the best hair for our range. The result is three grades of deer body hair for a range of fly tying purposes that we are confident in offering to your guys. The rest, ends up in the dumps bin, or for use testing dyeing processes. If I wouldn’t tie with it myself, I won’t let it be sold to you.

Due to the variance in colour across the hides, we are now offering our Fine Deer Hair in the standard Natural colur and this, Light colour. The Light deer hair exhibits lighter tones in the tips and overall lighter colouring along the length of the hair. It’s not as light as the bleached hair, it’s still a natural tone, but not as dark as the bulk of our Fine Whitetail Deer Hair, making it perfect for those light flies when you don’t want to go stark white or cream. The images show a typical piece, some are even lighter still. If you need something specific in your deer hair, just get in touch before you order.

The Fine Deer Hair is the taken from a section of the hide that exhibits shorter, finer hair as opposed to the longer, fuller hair found in the central back, where our Select Deer Hair is sources. The body flank delivers this hair, which is one that a lot of fly tyers will be looking for. It’s shorter that the Select Deer Hair, with fibers generally between 1 and 1.5 inches, with a finer, less hollow texture. This means it is great for tying smaller sized flies, in the #14 – #18 size range without excessive flaring. Small Stimulators, Caddis, Hoppers and similar patterns will be right at home with this hair. Being finer, and exhibiting a less hollow structure, it flares less, so it makes for an ideal tail hair on all manner of flies, including larger Stimulator and X-Caddis  patterns.

Each piece measures 2 inches by 3 inches.

Sale is for one single item, like pictured.
