Description

Drawn from the hide of a bristly wild boar, our painfully sourced Peccary Flank Hair Patches feature 2 to 3 inch long, stiff, uniquely quill-like hairs whose naturally mottled black, white, and grey color makes wrapped bodies and pronounced tails on large terrestrial dry flies and subsurface nymphs. When wraped on the shank of a hook and coated with Deer Creek Diamond Fine UV Resin, you get a delicious chocolate brown that blends into a deep cream as the wraps move up the hook. Especially useful for creating lifelike antenna or feelers on freshwater crayfish or saltwater flats patterns like Jim’s Golden Eye and Peterson’s Spawning Shrimps too.

A peccary (also javelina or skunk pig) is a medium-sized hoofed mammal of the family Tayassuidae. They are found throughout Central and South America and in the southwestern area of North America. This wild pig hair is quill like and very coarse. Peccary flank hair exhibits alternate bars of black and cream color. Great for abdomens and tails on nymphs and dry flies. The flank hairs average about 2 inches in length. There are roughly 48 hairs in a packet.

Each piece measures approximately 1.5 inches by 1.5 inches cut on the hide, with hair fibers running beyond this.

Sale is for one single item, as pictured, although actual colour varies slightly between pieces. Some pieces show more barring that others, but all are very usable for a range of fly tying applications.

Please note : This product is extremely limited. We struggle to find stock of usable quality peccary body or mane hair that is applicable to fly tying uses. Whilst we try to source peccary hair to be able to offer it at all time, the team at Troutlore is not always able to offer this product. The good news is, if it is shown as in stock, like all products on the Troutlore site, we still have stock available. Get in quick!

Other specialist hair and fur products can be found in the Specialty Species Category in the Troutlore Fly Tying Store.  If you can’t find a product you are specifically looking for, get in touch and we will see if it can be sourced, and kept in stock.
